Starting Friday, January 13th, Whistler will begin to see an invasion from the south as US college-goers descend on our splendid mountain town. It’s Whistler MLK Weekend – a time to ski hard, après hard, and party hard! Although Martin Luther King day falls on Monday, January 16, 2023, we’ll formally kick things off Friday, January 13th through Monday, January 15th, 2023 with every kind of party your heart could possibly desire.
And the cherry on top: the USD to CAD exchange rate is $1.00:$1.36 – meaning Whistler is currently 30% OFF for our fraternity brothers and sorority sisters to the south.
Part of the draw of heading to the mountains for MLK Weekend is that you’ll get to embrace the slopes and the party. Don’t feel like planning out each night of the weekend? We don’t blame you. For the party-goer who likes to start their celebrations while the sun’s up and continue well into the night, the Longhorn patio is the place to be for the Whistler MLK weekend. The prime location at the base of Whistler mountain, the Longhorn Saloon is perfectly situated to get some turns in the mornings, apres-ski in the afternoon, and party well into the night. A little Après Lager for an après ski is surely the right way to start an evening of indulgence! Oh, and should we mention, live music, and champagne guns. Yes, that’s a real thing, come check it out.
With breakfast from 9 a.m. onwards at the Longhorn, it’s easy to seamlessly transition from morning into apres-ski and an evening of partying. We recommend a good ol’ Canadian Caesar to start your day off right – it’s breakfast, in a drink!
Tapley’s Turns It Up
For the sports enthusiast who loves to party, check out the events happening for the Whistler MLK Weekend at Tapley’s. This homey bar is popular for those that like a good meal with friends chased by a round of darts or drinks around the outside firepits. With pizzas and a rotating selection of beer on special, Tapley’s is the place to be to watch your favorite team with friends and celebrate the after-party.
Tapley’s nachos ooze with cheese and are the perfect hangover cure. Or, if you need a little more grease to get you running, try the delicious Poutine. Cheese curds, fries, and gravy, what’s not to love?
The Dance Floor – Garfinkel’s
Garfinkel’s is the place to party over the Whistler MLK Weekend. As Whistler’s biggest dance venue, the staff sure know how to put on a good party, and Garfinkel’s is the go-to for locals no matter the night. Start your weekend early with Local’s Night on Thursday, the longest and we think liveliest locals night hosted in Whistler. With DJ’s spinning all weekend long you can be sure this place with be bumping every night!
Need a nutrition boost? Grab a smoothie from either The Green Moustache or Hundo P, open during daytime hours. Their healthy smoothies and snacks will help you keep that vitamin uptake up so you can hit the dance floor night after night.
Buffalo Bills – The Cage
Buffalo Bills has a legendary cage on their dance floor – and while we’re not condoning any crazy possibilities that might pop into your creative mind, we have certainly seen some interesting shapes being thrown in there, and we dare you to have a go. Fridays are for the ladies and features a stellar lineup of Top 40’s hits to get you grooving well into the night.
Take a day to nurse your hangover by heading up the mountain for a dose of fresh alpine air! Please only ski and ride if you are sober – the mountain operations staff will pull your pass if you are intoxicated. Besides – you wouldn’t want to miss a powder day, would you?
Black’s Pub – The Après
Sometimes referred to as Longhorn’s little sister, Black’s Pub, was adopted into the Gibbons Whistler portfolio in 2020. This two-level gastropub features unparalleled views of both mountains. Serving lunch, après, dinner, and late-night, Black’s Pub is a staple in Whistler.
Black’s Pub is known for its pizza. Head there pre or post-party to indulge in some cheesy goodness.
Moe Joe’s – The local dance bar
Moe Joe’s is Whistler’s headquarters for good times. Known for epic parties like the Beach party, where we convert the inside into a beach (yes we truck in truckloads of sand), Snow Joe’s where we make it snow inside, and its epic Sunday night Glow Joe’s party – this is one spot you can’t miss.
Après Après is Whistler’s newest dance bar. Make sure to check out the Facebook page before heading down to see what’s on as this venue hosts a variety of artists and programming.
