What is Outerbike?

Created to unite bike enthusiasts with an industry insider experience, Ashley Korenblatt of Western Spirit, is the brains and the passion behind Outerbike; a consumer access demo days that originated in Moab and, for the fist time this year, will be in Whistler as well. It is a four day event that offers the general public access to bike and gear manufacturers, allowing them to check out the latest innovations and, more importantly, to try out new bikes. The event also includes lift or shuttle access riding, guided rides, meals, parties, and beer!

WSSF Day 3 by Follow the Girls

Follow the Girls: WSSF – Day 3

The skiing was going off yesterday at the World Ski and Snowbaord Festival! The girls were killing it up in the Blackcomb Terrain Park in the morning, then the men were throwing down on the slopestyle course and for the Gibbons Big Air jump in the afternoon. It was so impressive to be up there amongst the action; even though me and my friend were both on crutches we just took the chairlifts up and some very kind ski patrollers took us down on a toboggan to watch. Thank you guys, it was hilarious and quite an adventure!

Follow the Girls: WSSF – Day 2

Day numero unos went off preeetty well…! Considering the weather made the slopestyle competition look pretty grey up on the mountain, everyone in town was still buzzed on the official start of WSSF. And who can deny it was fun to get up on the hill, especially knowing that all the snow falling made for one of the latest powder days on record for Whistler. Due to the snowfall, the slopestyle finals were moved from yesterday to today – the same day as the Gibbons Big Air. Women’s slopestyle followed by Gibbons Big Air (on the Shack jump in Blackcomb Park) kicked off at 10.30am. Men’s slope finals kicked off swiftly behind from 11.15am, with their Big Air finale from 1.15pm onwards.

Follow the Girls: WSSF – Day 1

Winter is non-stop; so many skiing and snowboarding, events and parties. The World Ski and Snowboard Festival (WSSF) is an end of season celebration for all this, with the pros competing for the world title and the bars putting on the biggest nights of the year. For 2015 I wanted to offer unique perspectives from the locals, and also represent female participation in the festival this year – for the first time women will compete in the Gibbons Big Air!

Have We Lost Our Sense of Connection?

During the summer of 2014 Eric Beckstead and Alex Bergeron set out on a journey to find and document individuals that have a deep connection with themselves, others and the world we live in. They created a video magazine called “Speaking a Lost Language”, which premiers on Thursday March 26 at the Lululemon ForeLise store with the official afterparty at Garfinkel’s . I caught up with Beckstead to learn more about the project and the “Free Collective” – the people he’s brought together to continue to create these videos.

Will it Snow in Whistler this March?

Will it snow in Whistler this March? Is there a chance that old man winter might come back to the mountains rather than taking an extended hiatus on the East Coast? There is a good chance that we could see some precipitation beginning this weekend but, as of now, the strengthening of the dreaded persistent high pressure to the south and east follows it. It goes without saying that a little snow would certainly help the alpine conditions…
