Finding Housing in Whistler
Whistler is an incredible place to live, work and play, but finding housing can be challenging. Planning ahead is essential.
As a world-class resort town with limited housing supply, most rentals fill quickly, especially before winter (October–November) and summer (May–June).
What to Expect When Renting
- Shared accommodation is the norm.
- Rent is higher than most Canadian cities.
- Long-term leases can be difficult to secure from abroad.
- It may take time to find something suitable.
Flexibility is key until you’re settled. If you expect a private apartment at city prices, reset your expectations.
Where to Look
Common platforms for housing searches include:
- Facebook groups (e.g., Whistler Housing)
- Craigslist (Whistler section)
- Word of mouth once you arrive
Avoid Housing Scams
- Never send money without verifying legitimacy.
- Ask for video walkthroughs.
- Confirm addresses and landlord details.
Housing Strategy for International Arrivals
1. Secure your work visa.
2. Arrive with short-term accommodation booked (1–2 weeks minimum).
3. Network immediately.
4. Be flexible with location, roommates, and move-in dates
The faster you build local connections, the easier housing becomes.
