Australia Day, the official national day of Australia, is coming up on January 26 and due to a large amount of Aussies residing in Whistler, it’s a very important day for our resort town, so important that celebrations are not just limited to one day.

Here is our guide on how to celebrate Australia Day in Whistler.

Drink like an Aussie: Even though you can’t get VB here in Whistler you can get a slab of Gibbons Après Lager to enjoy with your mates before heading into Whistler Village for the Australia Day celebrations. Which leads me to my next point….

Party like an Aussie: Everyone is Koala-fied to party on Australia Day, regardless of if you are actually Australian and the weekend is action-packed.

Kicking off the Australia Day celebrations on Friday, January 24th is Tapley’s Neighbourhood Pub with Triple J’s Hottest 100 Fundraiser Party.  The bushfires in Australia are devastating and we want to do our part to give back. Entry will be by donation and Gibbons Whistler will be matching the total door donations. Dan Vogl is very kindly donated his time and will be performing some awesome live music starting at 3 PM. There will also be a 50/50 raffle throughout the day with some exciting prizes donated from the Whistler community up for grabs, as well as some authentic Aussie fare on feature throughout the day (a portion of each feature sales will be donated to charity). So come party for a cause!

On Sunday, January 26th, Peking Duk, an Australia electronic music duo, are taking over the decks at The Longhorn Saloon and it is sure to be an epic patio party. Doors open at 9 AM so make sure to head into Longhorn early before they reach capacity.  $1 from every can of Gibbons Après Lager can sold will be donated towards Australia wildfire relief efforts. After the patio party, they are heading over to Garfinkel’s for a sold-out evening show.

Eat like an Aussie: If you want to eat like an Aussie we recommend heading over to Peaked Pies for an authentic meat (or vegetarian) pie. Founded by an Australia girl and a Canadian boy who fell in love over a pie and a pint at the pub, Peaked Pies brings you the ultimate experience in Australian meat pies, Artisan Coffee, and desserts.

If you can’t be in Australia to celebrate Aussie Day the next best place to be is in Whistler! So where the bloody hell are you?
